At Global Family Travels we believe that the most powerful way to learn is through the first-hand experience. We let the country and its people be your teachers and supplement your experiences with reading lists, informal discussions, and a pre-trip orientation which includes information on the culture and history of your host country, helpful words, and phrases, and cultural “do’s and don’ts”.
Through multiple game drives to unique destinations, you will be able to experience the abundant wildlife of the area up close, including nearly 400 species of birds and hundreds of thousands of land animals such as black rhinos and lions. At Lake Natron we will find the breeding ground of East Africa’s millions of flamingos, while in the Serengeti Plain we can witness the annual migration of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles. These are only two of the stops.
Visit the Ganako Secondary School and learn about the incredible impact the Karatu Education Fund (KEF) has made there through the donation of books, computers, and online learning programs. This visit provides the opportunity to learn about the educational needs for Tanzania’s youth, and what KEF is doing and to support these needs.
About the Karatu Education Fund: Established in 2000, this non-profit organization uses its proceeds to strategically build and restore education facilities, and to improve the quality of learning in Tanzanian Schools. The Karatu Education Fund supports efforts that encourage teamwork and active participation, in the hopes of developing a community of confident, educated citizens capable of making contributions to their community. Sponsor a Student: Children in Karatu, particularly girls, are lucky if they get the chance to go to Secondary School. We encourage you to either sponsor a student or donate to KEF and the new library, which will give you the opportunity to make a heartfelt connection with students there.
During the visit to Ganako Secondary School in Karatu, your family will have the opportunity to participate in our Play-for-Literacy program which is committed to improving the quality of life and the future of youth by offering literacy support to make a positive impact on the cycle of poverty. Play-for-Literacy is dedicated to the support of under-resourced youth by offering literacy support paired with cross-cultural soccer opportunities.
You and your family will have the opportunity to work with locals in a Maasai Boma as they teach you about various crafts and life skills important to the area. Whether it’s throwing a spear for the first time, milking cows, or making your own jewelry in the local style, you are bound to return home having learned something new!
Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti, or Siringitu to the Maasai, is a magical “place where the land moves on forever.” It includes more the National Park itself, encompassing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Maswa Game Reserve, the Loliondo, Grumeti, and Ikorongo Controlled Areas within its 30,000 km² region.
Featuring one of the world’s oldest ecosystems, guests will find themselves face to face with a herd of wildebeest roughly a million large, 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle, and the more than 200,000 zebras as they migrate from the northern hills and across the plains. With its unique ecosystem, two World Heritage Sites and two Biosphere Reserves, it is no wonder why over 90,000 tourists visit the Park each year.
Oldupai Gorge
Lying between Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park, the Oldupai Gorge, or Olduvai as it commonly misspelled, contains the world’s earliest evidence of our human ancestors. Though more famously explored by “the first family of paleontology,” Louis and Mary Leakey, it was Peter Nzube who discovered this evidence in the form of a 1.8-million-year-old skull in 1968. Nicknamed “Twiggy” after a British model, the skull belonged to what is believed to have been an adult female. Other significant findings within the Gorge include stone tools, and other hominid remains.
An area of 8,292 square kilometers, Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to around two million different species including many that are endangered. Within the park, guests can explore the world’s largest, unflooded caldera in the world, the Serengeti Plains, and the Northern Highland Forest Reserve.
What makes this UNESCO World Heritage Site so unique is that in the interest of maintaining a peaceful co-existence between humans and wildlife, over 40,000 Masaai pastoralists are permitted to live with their herd alongside the beautiful creatures inside the park.

Carbon Removal: According to the State of Global Carbon Dioxide Removal Report by University of Oxford, natural methods of removing carbon from the atmosphere are not enough by themselves due to the amount of pollution currently in the atmosphere. Innovations in removing and permanently storing carbon emissions are needed to conserve nature and reverse the course toward further climate change.

Tomorrow’s Air is a collective of carbon removal innovators that work to permanently remove and store carbon from the atmosphere. Travel is a large contributor to global emissions, and we feel it is important to educate and empower travelers to support efforts that combat climate change! Therefore, as of January 2024, Global Family Travels will include a $25 contribution to Tomorrow’s Air into every trip. Clients may opt out of the $25 donation by emailing us to request its removal from your invoice.

Extend your stay in Tanzania with Global Family Travels, by visiting Lake Manyara National Park! Day 9 -10!
Tucked away beneath the 600-meter high Rift Valley wall lies the scenic Lake Manyara. A thin, green band of a jungle-like forest sits along one side, acting as a home for the resident baboons, blue monkeys, and forest hornbills. If you’re lucky, you might spot one of the park’s famous tree-climbing lions or elephants as well. Just beyond it is the grassy floodplain where visitors can find buffalo, zebra, and giraffes roaming the land. Lake Manyara National park is also the perfect location to go birdwatching with more than 400 species having been spotted in the area.
